A Matter of Time
“The greatest gift you can give someone is your time, because when you give your time you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back,” said Rick Warren. Time is precious to everyone, therefore we should never waste it. Time is moments that we are allowed to give out to the people we wish to have it. We are not obligated to give time to a person we do not wish to have it. “Time” is how short or long a moment is that we can give or receive. “Time” is not only a measurement in hours and minutes, but also the longing for moments to slow down to preserve them or speed them up to move onto the next moment.
In the moments that we would like to slow down can be the best moments; mine is summer. Time in summer is like a television series. When it is finally finish there is a feeling of sadness but there is always a next season to look forward to. Time in summer also goes by with extreme exhilaration, but it means long nights with friends and late mornings due to the long nights. It is sleepovers and movies to adventures and getting lost. For explain, it is the first jump into the river with my friends and wishing I could turn back time to put on sunscreen. Time in summer means minutes filled with laugher and warm breezes. As time in summer comes to an end I always am reminded of the moments that I wish I could have skipped.
Besides the moments we would like to slow down there are many moments that seem to never end that we wish to fast forward. Moments like when my aunt was diagnosed with cancer and time itself seemed to stop. Time in those moments seemed to drag on when I wish they would have kept moving forward. The days I had left with her hung around me like a dark gloomy cloud after a storm. As I watched her lay in pain her last few days of her life, I wish I could have speed time time. I wish time expedited so she could be in a better place faster but those days prolonged. While my family arranged her funeral time seemed to stop even though everything around me kept moving forward. It seemed as though everything around me was in a slow motion race and I was at a stand still. Time in these moments are not easy but we should still thankful for the time we have.
A simple method that was once only used to measure hours and minutes has shown us that sometimes we wish we could slow down or speed up a moment depending on the situation. Time will forever play a factor in our lives, even if we think it is insignificant. Even though we can not slow down or speed up time, we will always have our memories; that is the best way to keep track of time.
